It seems there are so many news agencies on the "con" side of Palin...and now there is the police union raising concerns. Somehow it seems that the police union might be trying to "pay back" Palin for cleaning house...It seems we need a great deal more cleaned up.

I am a Democrate who was raised in a pro-union region of MN and I am a member of the Teacher's union. I am supporting McCain/Palin. Most of the reason is due to the slamming she and he are getting from liberal media and ridulous, time consumes attempts to derail her (distract McCain/Palin) from the issues this country faces.

So let me get this straight- the Governor's husband was part of the divorce proceedings for her ex-brother-in-law, then he told one of her aides about personal information from his personnel file, and for what reason? Who makes up this stuff - even Hollywood would throw this script out. If the Governor's husband is an attorney and was legitimately involved, he probably goes up on ethic violations for discussing his case with someone outside his authority of attorney client priviledge, OR he was trying to get the Governor to do something for the ex-brother-in-law, through the aide (Bailey). Looks like that pillar of rock Ms. Palin stands on today is more like rock salt, eroding away bit by bit. Just doesn't pass the smell test, does it? More republicans making up cover stories because they didn't do their background research first. Governor Palin will be remembered as the political WMD - when all is said and done, there's nothing special there. Should have vetted Colin Powell.

She's trying to take both sides on this issue. The reality seems to be that she is using her official position to pursue a personal vendetta and that she is using documents that it would be illegal for her to access to do so.

Doubtless the full language of the "waiver" limited disclosure to the lawyers named therein. Palin's husband isn't a lawyer -- and wasn't a party to the case, as the divorce was not his -- so he had no legitimate access to the information.

Same goes for Palin and her staff: none of them were parties to the divorce, so confidential information released within the limits of that waiver were not legitimately available to them. Not even through her sister.

Why would the staffer Bailey admit to accessing the records improperly in the recorded phone call if they got the information from Todd Palin? Palin who sought to re-open the case AFTER it had already been closed. She put pressure on Monegan to "see what he could do" and he repeatedly told her the case was closed, and that was that. After becoming increasingly frustrated, she came up with an excuse, and fired him.

In California, a state trooper who did what Mike Wooten did would have been fired on the spot---- Per my own search for the truth I cam across the Alaska Daily News. Per this newspaper, it states that Mike Wooten only got a 5 day suspension (which the Palin's were unaware of) for tasering his 10 year old stepson, drinking alcohol while on duty in his patrol car and threatening the governor's father and family. If you ask me, the guy should be in jail. I ask the same question as teh Palin's why is this guy still on the force???? My Dad was a State Senator for many years who had $10.00 "SteakBakes" so that every person in his district could attend. He truly cared about his constituents. At least as quoted here, Wooten's waiver was a very narrow one: It disclosed the privileged information to the lawyers, not to anyone else. The waiver probably included the lawyer's client (his ex-wife) but it does NOT seem to have included anyone else! So, if Palin's information derives from this waiver, it looks like (1) Her sister's lawyer violated a legal/ethical obligation, or (2) The sister violated a legal/ethical obligation. People shouldn't play fast and loose with privileged information. Professionals in all walks of life (educators, lawyers, doctors, nurses...) deal with confidential information now. Handling it properly is part of the job.

If he's still a trooper, but she fired his boss for not firing him, then she overstepped her bounds. She would have needed to have cause...and not the kind where if you don't do what I say, I'll fire you.

And maybe one the attorneys out there can tell us if access to divorce records by an attorney, makes those records public data to the governor or her aides? If not, then could the aide also be sued for invasion of privacy?

Palin is the common man's candidate and so I don't think this will hurt her. After all, wouldn't the average American man or woman in that situation use his political power to get the trooper fired after a sister endured a bad divorce? What's the point of being in office otherwise? Because 80% of America isn't unlike Palin as regards education, world view, travel, religiosity, etc., I don't think her effort to get a trooper fired because her sister didn't like him is going to put most Americans off. And besides G.W. already established that if the executive thinks someone is bad, they should be able to hold them in jail for four years without criminal charges being filed. Here, just because the case was closed doesn't mean justice was served. Maybe as VP, Palin can declare Wooten an enemy combatant and have him sent to Guantanamo. Even if the courts decide to free him, he'd be there for four years or so judging from that Padilla guy (who was also a "bad" guy who had been arrested before and was allegedly in a gang!). You can see how this works, right?

In the mean time, the 80% of average Americans are paying payroll taxes, income taxes and sales taxes and 55% of that money is going to mercenaries and cash bribes to warlords in Iraq and Afghanistan, and to the companies that make the big bucks building bombs. Some of these mercenary firms bill out mercenaries to the US government at $200,000 a year, but they employ ex-military from El Salvador and Fiji and pay them $10 an hour. That's the real racket. But you keep borrowing and keep paying and pay attention to abortion and whether "intelligent design" is taught in school. After the offshore the last of the well paying jobs here to India where they still teach science, we can all become real estate agents in the United States and sell each other houses.

In 1997, she fired Wasilla's town librarian and the town's police chief, who had both supported her opponent in the election of Gov. Palin to her position as mayor.

The question isn't the reason for the firing, it's the misuse of POWER to get someone fired. Whether the trooper deserved it or not, which he didn't get fired, the CHIEF OF POLICE did, for NOT firing the trooper. Regardless, there are channels, and if this is the kind of administration (mavericks) doing whatever they please (i.e. BUSH administration), then Obama has it correct to say, "we don't want four more years of the same thing...." A reason why America is suffering for the stupidity of 8 years of bull-headedness, misuse of power, and changing the rules as they see fit (POW interrogations).

I find it funny that this type of story actually made the news. Sure, Palin isn't perfect, but what politician is. Seems to me that if you are a democratic nominee, any story like this wouldn't have been given a second glance. The Republican Party has every and anybody prying into their pasts. Absolutely ridiculous. I pray Senator McCain and Palin are voted into the White House. We need a team who has experience dealing with liberal media slander who also knows that their doing in the government. God bless McCain and Palin. And com'on people, this story and all of you who find it relevant, are truly pathetic and pointless.

What does this say about our beloved republic, that a party has the gall to attack a brilliant proven candidate who has a record of achievement in community, intellectual and sustained public service through the voice of a deceptive, strident, inexperienced, hypocrtical, ruthless young woman? The party that has attacked Clinton for her gender screams sexism when Palin is investigated for her positions. But no one in the party screams racism when Palin tears into Obama. As a senior citizen feminist, I am in despair at such blatent prejudice, such dishonest politics. That McCain and his newest woman now parrot Obama's lines on bringing change to Washington does not make them change agents but sheer duplicitous gameplayers, lacking all integrity. For McCain it is clearly country last, McCain first. His harping on his POW years is a sickening self-serving self-aggrandizement. It is the false hero first, and dangerously, for all of us, country last.

Since Palin has been vetted for one week now it is not surprising that more and more information about her misconduct, her abuse of power as governor, the trooper scandal, her dismal record on the environment and endagered animal protection, her slashing programs including funding for teenage Moms, her and her husband's involvement with the Alaska Independence Party; a party that wants Alaska to separate from the US, her extreme stance on abortion (no abortion in the case of rape and incest) voting against allowing women to choose as her daughter was able to choose to keep her baby. McCain and Palin have no intention of withdrawing from the Iraq war instead her two sons are going overseas to serve with no mention of bringing the troops home. The US and International press has the responsibility to dig into the background of all candidates running for the most powerful offices in the world. Since McCain and the Republicans did not vet her it's up to the press now to inform the American voting public on her backgroud, biography and record.

Regarding this comment: "hey he signed the paper!". You're quite correct. He signed the paper releasing information to his lawyer. Last I checked that limited the release of information to one person - and that person was under a lawyer-client duty of confidentiality. He didn't sign a paper releasing information to anyone and everyone.

Also, funny how people on the Repub side of things claim this is mudslinging. How it's unfair. How it's nothing but propoganda when they have no qualms about turning around and doing the same thing to Obama.

The media isn't reporting the whole story. Wooten has threatened the lives of Palin's family and even used his taser against his young son. Now you tell me, should this man represent law enforcement? Anybody who can throw idol death threats around shouldn't be allowed to carry a weapon and let alone be a law enforcement officer.

If he wasn't part of a union, he would have been fired. In fact, in civil court proceedings such as for a domestic violence protective order the State of Alaska courts could've been forbidden him from posessing a weapon.

As a mother, I teach my children to respect authority; especially law enforcement. I would not trust this man. AS AN ALASKAN CITIZEN, I SAY WOOTEN SHOULD BE FIRED!!!!

I here people criticize Sarah because she changed her position on the Bridge. She changed because she went with the will of the people. She has accepted "pork" (What State has turned down earmarks?), but she has greatly reduced the take and made a commitment to avoid waste and do away with corruption and fraud. As for the ethics investigation. I was for it because I think it is important for government to be transparent, but this has become a political witch hunt (even before she was selected by McCain) and at this point, as sad as it may be, I don't think the citizens of Alaska will buy into the findings if they are damaging to the Governor.

Even if the governor is blameless here, doesn't it disturb you that her husband released confidential information to her staff (the waiver provided for release to attorneys, not Mr. Palin), or that he made multiple calls to Monegan attempting to influence the situation... and in the process putting the governor on the hot seat? And why is it that he knew but she did not know that her own staff had made about 20 calls to the Dept. of Public Safety on her behalf? Are you comfortable with the fact that the governor copies her husband on emails regarding state business? Wooten is a piece of work, who would never have lasted a minute in another law enforcement agency. As a police officer in CA, his actions would have resulted in termination a long time ago. Apparently the standards in AK are a lot more loose. There wouldn't have ever been the need for a probe into this case if he had been terminated. In CA agencies take CUBO (conduct unbecoming of an officer) very seriously and deal with it appropriately.
