I can respect others views and usually do not respond as I am now. But why should Mushtaq Yusufzai get prosecuted? He simply is reporting news. Here is a man that is putting his life on the line because at given time the Taliban could have gotten spooked somehow and killed him. If we didn't have reporters that are doing what he is doing you would get seriously sensored news. Which happens in the states regularly but imagine for a minute the degree that is would reach. They probably will attempt to procecute him but what a sad day. Aiding and abetting is rediculous because he did not assist in a military mission or even attend one. I have been to Sirajuddin Haqqani's house in Khost. It has marble flooring and nice wooden door frames. It is a two story house. Easy to spot because every other house in Khost is a little shack made out of mud. On the top of his house, there is a thing made out of cement that kind of looks like a helicopter. It's no surprise that the supposed "enemy" of the American occupation of Afghanistan is getting aid from our "ally" in the government and military of Afghanistan. We failed in our mission to completely destroy the enemy that attacked our country. We need to get out of that region and let the Arabs govern themselves. The biggest mistake our country made was killing our only true keeper of the watch in the region- Saddam Hussien. Sure he was a murdering butcher and cruel dictator - but he kept the region in check. If the Soviets couldn't control Afghanistan in the 80's for over ten years of occupation, what the makes us think that the Americans could do any better.

Why is anyone surprised by this? We should never have removed our troops to fight the needless quagmire in Iraq. What the afghan officials are secretly doing against Nato and US servicemen in Afghanistan is unbelievable to those who are not aware of the teaching of the kuran! For kuran teaches muslims to use hypocrisy to overcome the unbelievers. The rule laid down by the kuran is this: When a muslim faces an unbelievers who is stronger than him to overcome openly, what to do is to let the unbeliever see than he is cooperating with him, to let him believe that the muslim is his ally. And the confidence is built between the two, and that unbeliever have trust on him then muslim act secretly to prepare its weapons to strike and defeat the unbeliever. In other terms, the rule is fake cooperation and in the same time preparing the weapons needed to slain the unbeliever. All the muslim know this rule of the kuran.

In the war on Western people and all those who do not follow islam are the unbelievers. Today these unbelievers are stronger than the muslim then the tecahing is applied by the officials of Pakistan, Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Iran and all other muslim countries. You cannot request them to violate the teaching of their holy book.

This is why US and other western countries should stop selling sophisticated weapons to the muslim countries for they will use them one day against these western unbelievers.

The easy solution to these problems is this... stop allowing freelance news crews into a war zone! how many times have you seen on the LIBERAL news networks that some poor reporter was just over there doing his job then he was caught by the taliban and is being held hostage? at least a few. the fact is that american media loves a scandle. i'm not trying to censor the news, and i know that they sometimes report on the good we are doing over there. but enough is enough. the military has several news publications to report this stuff. (army times, stars and stripes) as a soldier i don't want to raid a village in afghanistan to find some journalist. watch the news tonight and see how many "positive" stories they air, you'll see what i mean.

For those defending the “objectivity” of this report: The third paragraph gives you a clue. The opening sentence of the third paragraph: “Sirajuddin Haqqani, 28, controls the Taliban in the Afghan border areas with Pakistan, and in the area surrounding Kabul.” That’s a lot of territory…territory that his tribe does NOT control. The border area is 1,500 miles long. NBC deliberately inflated his importance. No one Taliban commander commands anything approaching that much territory…not even Mullah Omar.

If Haqqani was as important as the article makes him out to be, there would be a lot more than $200,000 on his head. We just killed a guy who had $5M on his head last week…a much bigger fish than a local Taliban commander.

What we in the West call corruption is endemic in all these countries. They think of it as normal business. Are there Afghan officials aiding the Taliban? Quite probably, but not many. 90% of the Taliban come from one Pashtun tribe: the Ghilzai. The Ghilzai are the largest single tribe and traditional enemies of the second largest tribe: the Durrani. President Karzai is a Durrani.

Lastly, the situation on the ground here in Afghanistan is far more complex than either the Administration or the media make it out to be, but it is far from hopeless. It takes, on average, ten years to defeat an insurgency simply because the insurgents avoid open conflict with superior forces. This one really didn’t start cooking until 2006.

Ironic how perceptions change. When Haqqani the father (Jalaludddin Haqqani) was killing Soviets we cheered and passed on money and arms to him. Now, when Haqqani the son (Sirajuddin Haqqani) does the same thing to us, we heap invective on him. The truth is that both men were and continue to fight in the service of the same cause, the expulsion of foreigners from Pushtun land. I'm afraid we have become the latter-day Soviets in the eyes of many, both in and outside of Afghanistan, trying to impose a regime subservient to ourselves on the complex and conservative society that is Afghanistan. The end result will almost certainly be little different from that suffered by the Soviet-sponsored 20 years ago.

When will everyone wake up and see the light? The one true way to win this war is for all Americans to stop feeding money into a region of the world. It starts here. Force car manufacturing companies to start making aleternative fuel cars instead of buying fosil fuel cars that are just that fosils. Once complete in this it will avoid the need to havethe amount of oil from these contries and cut their pocketbooks throat .. no money no guns no war.. oh yea and it may even sparks some new life in the heart of this country such as farming instead of drilling for say oh ethol instead of gaping holes in the landside and maybe help our ecosystem a touch and that pesky green house issue.. just remember this when you hop into that big old SUV and pump 120 dollars of soon to be guns in Afg. Iraqi hands.
