I can't believe this guy is saying all Americans are the enemies of Islam, not just our government. He's alienating anyone in the West who is Islam and many Americans who do not necessarily support our current government.

This will be the ultimate downfall of al-Qaida, not their anti-imperialist stance, with which many in the West happen to agree, but this kind of totalitarian view. It wasn't Hitler's view of a NAZI Germany that destroyed the Third Reich but his willingness to destroy anyone with a different world-view.
So, "all Americans the enemy"?
I challenge anyone who has such a view to explain yourself, and exactly why "I" am your enemy, someone who you have never met, nor had any contact with what-so-ever. I believe that this clearly illustrates that it is Afghanistan, and not Iraq, that should have remained as the focus of the 'War on Terror'. George Bush had a clear, though hidden agenda to wage war on Iraq before he became president. His administration seemed to regret having to deal with Afghanistan as it detracted from his real goal of 'regime change' in Iraq. Had the US focused solely on Afghanistan, this war would have been successfully resolved years ago. As it is, we have not cleared Afghanistan of terrorists. We have only succeeded in de-stabilizing an already turbulent Pakistan and opening up Iraq to international terrorists. Iraq needed to be dealt with firmly, but to remove all of the existing control systems (ie. Saddam Hussien, the Baath Party and the military) without putting anything in its place was disasterous. Now we have paid up to 1 trillion dollars for nothing in Iraq and have taken our eyes off Afghanistan. Is it any wonder that the Taliban expects to take back the whole of Afghanistan one day?

I don't tell my neighbor how to clean his backyard when mine looks just as bad. Let's take care of our own problems at home before we start telling everyone else how to live. As far as Iraq goes, we already started the job, let's finish it when the Iraqi people and government can stand on their own. Afghanistan, on the other hand, needs to be dealt with as quickly and as efficiently as possible. A lot of experts went to a lot of trouble to scientifically prove conspiracy theorists like Rosie O'Donnell wrong. It's out there on the net for anyone to research.

America has flaws but this really is a good vs. evil. These people pretend and claim they are fighting for a cause. As an open society, we are seeking them out before they can strike again. There may be many motivations of the administration but one has to be the fear of a catastrophic attack that would render a major American city a waste land. No Pakistani Gov can survive an all-out military offensive into the tribal autonomous regions. The logistics alone are daunting, the territory large, very rugged and an asset to the defense. NE Pakistan has hills bigger than most N AMerican mts and mts that make The Rockies look like termite mounds. The Pak army is not capable of doing much more than it is currently doing. The population would riot over a massive military expedition into the Waziristans or any of the others. Therefore the situation is basically static with titfortat limited attacks and Predator strikes. Each time the Taliban has emerged from the tribal zones in any force they have met serious defeat in lives and lost weaponry. Small unit sneak attacks are far more reliable and is their most effective MO. So long as the Pak ISI is in quasi-cooperation, the situation will not change. NATO cannot invade the Waziris for political reasons and lack of essential manpower. Taliban chiefs are well aware of the balance they live with and get far more international milage from propaganda and thunderous threats than from actual combat.

I do believe you can counteracted violence by additional violence, WWII is a good example of this, force may be required to stem the spread of evil for the greater good. I don’t believe you can counteract hatred the same way… Instead of combating the continuing spread of darkness with additional darkness, we need to consider bringing a little light to the region. We may as popular opinion dictates kill every practicing Taliban in the region. That Will NOT protect us from the next generation that this action breeds.

We need to counteract the potential next generation with opportunity. Opportunity to chose a different path. Feed the hungry, show them how to feed themselves better. Build some roads. Show them how to build better conditions. Counteract ignorance with education. Give the next generation an alternative to the Taliban and maybe we can stem the flow of freedom fighters the Taliban breeds. Take away our image as a big bully and the worst they will do is fight amongst themselves. Consolidate our image as a bully and you give their cause justification.
In summation, there may be imediate cause to wield the rod. But we should also temper this with more commitment to their future, or we fuel the Taliban's cause globally.

I am all for interviews of these people. The interview allows the rest of the world to see the radical ideology and tactics they employ.

This situation will not resolve in peace because they do not want peace. Look to the history of these people and judge for yourselves their inability to co-exist in peace with other Muslims not of their sect. They can't and they wage war on each other. Sect against sect through out history without quarter. This has gone on for years. Now they have money and can export their hatred outside of their borders....even for this task they cannot resolve their sectarian issues to unify against a common perceived threat.

No...there will never be any peace in this land....only hatred. The average Islamic is not a bad person...it's just that radical 5% of their population that condems them all to turmoil and strife.

We should never have gone into Iraq! Afghanistan is where our real enemy lives! We should have put enough troops on the ground to totally occupy Afghanistan, capture Bin Laden and ALL of his "fighters" and return Afghanistan to their rightful rulers/people.

By going into Irag on some made up pretense, all we did was weaken our military by spreading them too thin!

Take care of the major problem before tackling the next objective! Bush need not have gone into Iraq when he did, but he needed payback for Saddam trying to off his old man!
