oh please@! Just another propaganda story to accomplish two things:

1-To comvince the public that Israel is our friend and therefore we should continue to send them as much money/ guns, etc as they want. (AND let them rule America- read up on the history of this folks!)

2-To further push why it should be ok that the government spies on our phone calls, cell phones, etc. Notice how this "plot" was conveniently uncovered by finding pictures on someone's cell phone of helicoptors?

The suppoosed "plotter" posted online that he wants to "blow up Bush's helicoptor???"" How stupid do they think we are? If you were really going to do that, you would post it online???

Israel accuses six of terror link

President Bush visited Israel in January and in May
Israel's internal security service says it has arrested six Arab men accused of trying to set up an al-Qaeda cell in the country.

The Shin Bet agency says that one of the men tried to organise an attack on US President George W Bush during one of his visits to Israel.

No details have been given about whether the suspects came close to carrying out any attacks.

The men, all in their 20s, have not yet responded publicly to the charges.

Shin Bet said the two Israeli Arabs and four Palestinians from east Jerusalem were arrested in June and July but the information was only released on Friday.

The agency said that investigators had also found information about bomb-making on computers belonging to several of the suspects.

Helicopter attack

Shin Bet said that one of the suspects, a 24-year-old chemistry student, lived in a Jerusalem college dormitory overlooking a helicopter landing pad used by President Bush during a visit in January.

The man had used his mobile phone to film the helicopters and then posted queries on web sites used by al-Qaeda members, asking for guidance on how to shoot the aircraft down, the agency said in a statement.

Shin Bet said the men had met several times at Jerusalem's al-Aqsa mosque, trying to organise a local al-Qaeda network.

Earlier this month, Israel arrested two Bedouin Arab citizens for alleged links to al-Qaeda and for planning attacks inside the Jewish state.

It was the first time Israel had accused any of its citizens of co-operating with the network.

Listen all...I'm an American but was born in Israel. Half of my family lives in Jerusalem and the problem there is more complex than anyone really knows. Its great that we all have our "opinions" but know the facts before you speak. The state of Israel was not taken away by the Jews, it was given to them by the UN and Britian in response to the Holocaust, among many other atrocities in history. On a day to day basis, the Palestinians and the Jews get along. They work together, go to the same places and co-exisit. It is he few extremists on both sides that screw it up for the majority of Israelis and Palestinians. Granted, it is horrible that many Palestinians were forced to leave their homes. I am sympathetic but every time Israel concedes and gives up land, the terror attacks continue. I would like to know what other country in the world would allow these acts of violence without defending itself. Israel is always condemed but what are they supposed to do? Allow their citiznes to be blown up in buses? I dont think so. I am actually a student at the Hebrew University right now and there are many Arabs and Palestinians who go to school here. Let's examine the fundamental philosophy of conservatism. It is based on the idea that change is not a good idea. Why would change be bad? Well, it would be bad for me if I were in power and wanted to stay in power. It would be bad if I were wealthy and had to give up some wealth.
So you could say that the fundamental philosophy of conservatism is "I got mine F--- you!"
Now lets translate that to real world benefits.
If I were not wealthy and/or in power and I wanted things to stay the same. Then the only other reason someone might not want change is fear.
But fear of what? Fear of losing your job?
Fear that my daughter might fall in love with a Minority and then my grandkids might turn out brown?
What? Fear they might take my gun away?
This country is armed to the teeth and we are not giving up our guns.
There are no tax advantages unless you make more than $250,000 a year to vote for things to stay the same.
There are really only a few things that create policy debate. Economics and fear. Fear can translate into many things. btw the world spent close to $40 trillion dollars on the cold war.
I wonder how many PHds we could have created with that much money. Phd's that could have worked on energy issues. Economic Phd's that could explain to a educated population that innovation creates wealth and a greater GDP. The right and the left are at odds because of one simple fact. Corporations have the same rights as humans except they do not pass on. This has caused a gap in wealth that is so great that today hardly anyone can see the root of the problem.

Six Israeli Arabs, the majority residents of east Jerusalem, suspected of planning to set up an Al Qaida cell in Israel, and plotted to kill US President George W. Bush,were arrested by security forces in June and July this year.

Details released by the Shin Bet on Friday said some of the cell members are students at Jerusalem's Hebrew University and the six members belonged to a closed religious sect who plotted and planned to set up an Al Qaida cell in Israel.

Shin Bet and special Israel Police units were involved in the arrest operation.

The suspects were identified as,Ibrahim Nashaf, 22 of Taibe a phsyics student at Hebrew University, Mohammed Najem, 24 of Nazareth studied chemistry at Hebrew University, Yusef Samarin ,21, a resident of Beit Hanina in east Jerusalem, Anes Shweike, 21 a resident of Jabel Mukaber and Kamal Abu Kweidar,22 a resident of Jerusalem’s Old City.

Details gleaned from their interrogations revealed that the group conducted frequent meetings in the Al Aksa mosque and plptted to establish an Al Qaida cell in Israel based on Osama bin Laden's doctrine.

The group based its ideology on information compiled from extreme Islamic wesbites found on the internet. Searching the suspects’ homes, security forces discovered that some had downloaded step by step explanations and detailed instructions on how to compile bombs and explosive belts, from the internet.

The cell members planned to recruit others to the cause and plan attacks inside Israel.

Mohammed Nagem a chemistry student lived in the Hebrew University dormitories on Mount Scopus and from his room had a view of the helicopter pad located in the university’s stadium.

Najem using the camera on his mobile phone took footage of helicopters taking off and landing at the pad, and then linked up on extreme Al Qaida websites chat forums where he sought advice on how to shoot down President George W. Bush’s plane during the President’s visit to Israel.

Security officials said the arrest of the six are just part of a rising trend identified by the defense establishment where a growing number of Arabs with Israeli citizenship identify with extreme Islamic groups who devote their time to plotting attacks and planning hostile activities inside Israel.
The six were indicted in Jerusalem’s District Court on Friday on a number of charges including membership in a terror organization, Najim will also be charged with assisting the enemy, possession of terror propaganda a charge against four cell members aside from Kweida and Shweike.07/18/08

The resentment of Arabs towards the US isn't shocking if you actually were to study history and see all the events leading up. Does anyone ever ask why Arabs, specifically Palestinians are so upset. The United States defends Israel without question, while the Palestinians do not have a formally recognized state and are given land piece by piece. America uses its military strength to bully its policies across the globe. I love my country and my countrymen, but some of our elected officials should be hanged. I do not endorse or condone terrorism, but there are reasons why people (all people) choose the actions they take. The first step should be to limit Senators' terms to only two six-year terms (how do they keep getting reelected). I can't believe there is a US Senator running for president who jokingly says that America's increased exports of cigarettes to Iran "may be the best way of killing them". But Christians learned from their mistake and made a kinda peace with each other, make that more of a truce. This is what I like about Israel - they don't have to play nice to politics. They see a threat, they take care of it, no matter how insignificant the planning stage was.

We're too spoiled in this country. 9/11 was the tip of the iceberg to what the Islamic extremists have been itching to do to us for years, but they have been doing to Israel for years. As such, Israel could give a flip about some personal rights and liberties, and will gladly exchange those for the ability to walk outside their door. We haven't experienced terror at the level they have for 50 years. 9/11 was a one day event for us - they deal with it every single day.

You folks do realize President Bush's approval rattings in Israel have been in the upper 80's to mid 90's every day since 9/11.

I hate to say it, but untill we start experiencing continuous terror on a daily basis on our own soil, most of this country are ill-equipped emotionally to deal with the fact that liberal democrat thinking and policies will absoutely fail against terrorists.

Thank God GW understands this, and is willing to do the right thing despite almost half the country being ignorant.

The attacks are in response to our foreign policy...hmm Well, so what would you suggest our response to them killing innocents intentionally not collateral damage? Women and children? I guess since it is okay to disagree with someone and hijack planes, fly them into civilian buildings killing innocents that we (USA) should just start pulling our troops out of Iraq and Afghanistan and drop a couple dozen nuclear weapons in those countries most populated areas. Every time there is another terrorist attack on US soil we will just drop a nuclear bomb in the general area we think one of the attackers came from. Since we don’t like their foreign policy it should be okay with the world or at least the Muslim extremists since they understand that sort of language. Gabriel, you’re a moron.

Being the president of the United States is probably on of the most unappreciated - thankless
responsibilities any person could bring upon themselves.
I am all for, with the approach President Bush has taken towards terrorism.
The media states no weapons of mass destruction
were found in Iraq, the media made little out of the yellow cake uranium that was secured, or the chemical vats that were secured, and used for mixing poison against the Curds.
