Many, likely the majority of the human population, do not share our values, sensibilities, and beliefs. We are not encountering the problems typically discussed at the local PTA meeting. The U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights applies to the citizens of the United States. To enjoy those protections one must apply for membership and abide by the established rules of civility required for acceptance, not to ceaselessly campaign to the contrary. Tolerance and acceptance are our ultimate strength. The opposite, however, must be confronted.

KSM still in charge

T.A. I think this is a three ring circus, that WE should have KILLED him 5 years ago not the government but WE the people. He confessed to have been the leader of a conspiracy that killed thousands of Americans and was put in JAIL? And all of the so called torture over the last five years is seemingly not enough to get him to relinquish any real information, leading me to beleive that either, its NOT TORTURE or KSM and his seeming subbordinates are really eating this crap up. Seems to me the only torture victims in this whole shenanagan are the people who lost their loved ones because of this ahole and handfull of radicals. I say a handfull because on a worldwide scale Al Quiada is really no more than a bunch of common thugs with a few more guns and some camels pthhh not scary. So on the subject of him coersing the other witnesses, he should never been allowed to show that power whether in that courtroom or anywhere else, shame on the court and shame on the media. I beleive that at the cost of 4000 peoples lives he gave up his own humanity and along with it his basic human rights as should anyone of them who wants presume credit for that shamefull act. Im all for not torturing prisoners in the regard that Im an American and we beleive in a higher respect for each other although not always the way we should. But in some cases, such as this, we let our feelings shroud the need to protect ourselves . They know this and use it against us as was obviously played out in that courtroom. The only thing that KSM is in charge of is a couple of 5 year convicts unless of course you count his captive American Audience. Why have let it come to this. What touch has he 'not lost'? Who has proven that these are 'al-Qaida foot soldiers'? Why does a rationale for handling his own defense have to be a 'rant'? Rather than the ingratiating 'some say borders on torture' your reporter should say 'that most of the world defines as torture'. Finally after a blog that demonstrates that a specific individual can exert a remarkable control over codefendants what exactly is the comment 'still thinks he has it' supposed to mean? Obviously not only will these trials be show trials but much of the USA media is still happy to continue to perform as the foot soldiers of the Bush regime.

KSM still in charge

You miss the point my dear fellow. It's not that KSM thinks he still has it; it's that the four co-defendants and others like them in Guantanamo and around the world think he still has it.

KSM still in charge

Si KSM consigue prision perpetua los EEUU podran ser atacados pidiendo la libertad de este terrorista plese be smart death is the best solution

KSM still in charge

What did the "judges" and their combattants expect? Al Quaeda is an army - built up with US money and advisors (see "Charlie's War"). They are an Army with a military structure of command. So, it is silly to talk about Sheikh Mohammed creating "an atmosphere of intimidation". If anything, it as an atmosphere of "freedom within the soldiers' solidarity".
Let's face it: Guantanamo itself is Intimidation at its worst: coercion, torture, threats at prisoners' families - what worth would anything said there have? Any "confession"? Humbug. Any claim that these were results of "later re-interrogations", i.e. past torture? Rubbish. Once tortured never speaking freely again - not to the persecutors.
And let us not forget: about 140 to 160 former Guantanamo prisoners who were "repatriated" to Afghanitan, were promptlt incarcerated there in 10 minute "trials" on evidence not even the Guantanamo "tribunals" would accept. o, even an acquittal would not mean anything.
But acquittals are not likely. What Sheikh Mohammed has done is justone thing: He blocked the way of pretending "fair trial" by finding a "fig-leaf" here or there for a "non guilty" or "leniency". He re-grouped his platoon, like a good officer, in battle formation.
Once more, this proves: he is a soldier in a war. Mr. Bush himself declared his activities as "War Against Terror". He forgot, like many Americans, that this 9/11 was not the first one - see 1973 in Chile, where terror ruled almighty. But apart from that:
Soldiers actions have to be distingished: are they Acts of War or Crimes of War? This should be tested in an International Court of Justice - BUT: the US have not rcognized that court in The Hague. Why not? I guess, we all know: the whole Bush Cabinet would have to appear there in the Dock. But as things are: We'll be entertained by a wombat trial in a kangaroo court.
Dr. J. Any phychiatrist could have warned them they would only lose control of the overall situation if they tried them together. (Witness Sadam Hussein's trial). I would like to make a second point: to give this man the death sentence, which he wants, as it will make him a martyr to his cause; would be another major mistake. He should be put in prison, solitary confinement, with a life sentence for every person that died on 9/11. It's hard to be a martyr while you are still alive, eating well, worshiping as you choose and watching color TV in air conditioning (especially when the vast majority of your followers don't have more than 2 of any of the above.

KSM still in charge

This is why we may lose the war in Iraq and Afghanistan.
This is why we may lose the war against the terrorist in the Middle East.
Patience.
The proof is in the pudding. Does America, and the rest of the world, ENJOY living in fear? What are these "justice" shams for? These people killed innocent civilians. They (I am sure must have) admitted to it. WHY are they STILL alive? Do you know how much ordinary God-fearing Muslims have to suffer because of such criminals? If this was Saudi Arabia, these people's head would have been long chopped off, and deservedly. This is America and so millions have to suffer while five monsters get a fair defence.. and these guys don't even contro the oil supply, so why really should the public bother about their fate? It's called "Deterrance". Publically hang these traitors to Islam and any and all other religions, so that no one dares commit this or any other brutality again. God has hung them long ago.. what are humans waiting for? Disgusting. There are theft and rape victims around that world that need attending to as I type, drug lords that need to be shot and extortion rackets busted. Wouldn't it have been better to try KSM first and convict and work down the line. Now that they've all gotten together after five years no one will provide any information. I don't think a death penalty would be good because it would only make KSM a martyr and further the cause of the terrorists. I would opt for using him in a covert op to lure bin laden out and other key figures. Implant a tracking/homing device and launch a Tomahawk missle taking out KSM and who ever he is meeting with. Then provide documentation that KSM was working with the US to end the terrorist threat. KSM would be dealt with and not made a martyr.

KSM still in charge

Don't forget this thug(no words strong enough to describe this despicable excuse for a human) is the one who killed all the people on 9/ll, destroyed lives of those who live. he is the one responsible for the deaths of all our military men & women who sacrificed their lives for our safety. he is the root cause of some of our soldiers taking their own lives. he doesn't deserve to live, yet he doesn't deserve to die a martyr in his own eyes & those who blindly follow him. Perhaps instead of a military tribunal, and court appointed attorneys, they should be tried by relatives of 911 victims. Their continued defiance, with no signs of regret, reflects the views of not only terrorists, but many silent but radical Muslims the world over. Killing with the idea that god wills it, is far off course of the rest of the worlds religions, that to even think that they have a religion, is ludicrous. I feel that the planets religious leaders need to have a UN type council to study, asses and fix, the fractured minds of people that believe that killing is god's will. I hope we can do this during the next decade. Perhaps, instead of the world media showing crowds chanting "death to America", they could show all religious leaders discussing an end to killing for allah and their hopes for living in peace.

KSM still in charge

Don't put him to death. Put him in a cave in Iraq and give him a life sentence. Let the Iraq people pay for keep.

KSM still in charge

I would hope the government grants his wish to die in a timely manner.

KSM still in charge

Life imprisonment w/o possibility of parole would be appropriate for KSM. Im not saying that KSM didn't mastermind the attack and that he is just some random shmoe from the Middle East who can be placed as a patsy for a slip up from the Bush Administration. I'm saying he's got plenty of years left after this trial. I think it demonstrates the lack of quality in our military leadership that none of them had the remotest idea that bringing all the prisoners into the same courtroom at the same time would not be an opportunity for them to talk and showboat for the press. Do we really care to know what happens to them other than to hear they were executed?

KSM still in charge

Well, all he needs to do is wait until Obama gets in. Obama will shut Gitmo, import these guys to the US, then, they will get high powered defense attorneys who will get them off on technicalities. At that point, they can go back to do what they love. Killing Americans. Then, Obama and his supporters will call it "the price of Freedom." These AlQuida guys are not dumb. They WANT to use our system against us to destroy us. Thank God Bush fooled them and didn't allow that to happen. He threw them a curve they didn't expect. However, in 8 months, they can get back on track.

KSM still in charge

Why did not have a muzzle over KSM's face to prevent him from communicating with the other inmates or making speeches? KSM should have been given strict rules about making speeches and such and been tasered as soon as he did something other than make his plea and fire his lawyers. Any other country in the world would have executed this lunatic, and his counterparts, the instant they were captured. Justice is not being served here. The United States tax payer is bearing the financial burden of their incarceration and eventually a trial as well. Additionally, we must pay the salaries of the American soldiers who are representing these contemptible pieces of human trash. I don't know which I find more disgusting- these so called "American" service men and women who are representing them or the bleeding heart liberal mentality of a people that requires them to do so.

KSM still in charge

Unintended consequences. That people think that we should "take it easy on them" because it may upset thier friends is playing into thier hands. It is simply laughable to think that these trials are biased. If you think that these individuals are innocent of the wanton murder (admitted) of people including women and children then mabe you should look at what they have spent thier lives doing.

KSM still in charge

Enzo F. Yes, with out question there must be a rule of law ...even in a military matters .

The matrix of what war is has changed . We as a nation are in a post Viet Nam , WW II era . The "military " forces are not a regular army ..but what we all witnessed on 9/11 ..or did we forget .

Americans to a degree unless you were in NYC , Wash ., D.C. have a selective recall of events. WE were attacked not our military bases but hard working mothers ,fathers ,sons ,daughters , american , non American , white , black, liberal , conservative .

The people , and that is a very liberal word to use for the likes of them , would kill again . Some released at Gitmo found their way to the battle fields again ..only to kill Americans .

Americans forget that for 50 years there was a cold war ..that ended . WE now have a new type of war ..which we did not ask for . With all that said EACH person at Gitmo will have more legal rights , better treatment than any American taken hostage ..Go look at record .

In sum we must ask, :" Is our legal system , laws and justice being used as a tool against us "????

The United States of America is in a state of war . You may have your wide screen TV , BMW , MTV etc ..but make no mistake if given the chance and the ability there are forces in the world that turn the America into a waste land .

With all that said we STILL adhear to the Rule of Law " ..but we should not be fools either !!!

KSM still in charge

Why is this admitted terrorist still alive? Our justice system is a complete failure. We should not waste any more time with him. He openly confesses. Let's impose the appropriate penalty today.

KSM still in charge

Skysoldier Ft.
