Second, you don't NEED to have done anything wrong -- after all, there's no crime needed other than (for whatever reason) your being classified as an enemy combatant... and there's NO legal recourse through which you'll get the chance to prove your innocence. All you can do is wait and hope for your release.

We need to make things right. Arbitrarily punishing people because they "look" or "seem" like terrorists merely puts more blood on our hands, but it goes nowhere toward solving the problem or delivering justice.

Under the current system, LOTS of punishment is being meted out... but we have no idea if any justice is being served. Nor will we until we re-embrace the Geneva Conventions.

Report: Military used harsh methods on 9/11 terror suspect

If there is evidence to link him to a crime, any crime, then charge him and prosecute him. That's how our justice system works! I thought 9/11 woould finally allow the weak complacient American to see the light; looks like they want their country to be turned over to those who would change it into other than a democratic society. The fact of the matter is that he is not a terrorist until he is proven so in a court of law after something that we call DUE PROCESS. You got that?? The bottom line is that with private military tribunals, no due process, lack of proper defense and discovery processes, they could make Mother Theresa look like a shill for Al-Qaeda. I guess it doesnt matter that our detainees see as much fair justice as our soldiers would have under Saddam. . . unreal.

Report: Military used harsh methods on 9/11 terror suspect

I don;t care what anyone one has done, all should be treated with respect. Let him who is without sin cast the first stone. God bless

Report: Military used harsh methods on 9/11 terror suspect

We spend months on end at sea to protect those reporters rights, along with the rights of all Americans. If a terrorist is put out for being uncomfortable due to his beliefs then he should not even consider coming to this country. We look out for each other and if the general public had their way he would never make it back to his home country except in a body bag and deposited from 10,000 feet. Give them to us as there is tardition that included keel hauling. Lets see which they prefer, a little water on their heads or being drug under the hull of a ship they would like to destroy.

Report: Military used harsh methods on 9/11 terror suspect

Who cares what the military does to these animals. It said that, that was what was done. I really don't care what they did to him, the thing is that it doesn't work. Experts have said over and over again it doesn't work. I didn't see in this story that they got any information from him, probably just did it for their own amusement. If you want to protect me do something that works. The reason the interrogators use these tactics is they are sadistic. They enjoy torturing people, and a lot of my fellow Americans enjoy hearing about it. We should really just admit that we do torture people rather then pretend that these things dont happen, its something that america (and other countries) have always done and likely always will. People should take their heads out of the clouds to realize the cost of national security that has always been present. My only complaint is that the torture was less, pardon the expression, "gay" and more pyschically oriented. That way americans didn't look so disgraceful and immoral when called on their methods. I think the world would think less of a black eye and a broken bone, then of a pair of womens underwear on a naked mans head.

Report: Military used harsh methods on 9/11 terror suspect

I continue to be stunned and fascinated by the level of savagery in the American heart. So many people parade around like saints and lust for blood. Give them a good reason to kill, and they'll take it. Firstly, this man has never been convicted of anything and secondly, if this is a civilized country, then due process should be allowed in all matters to determine guilt. If a convening body feels threatened by the prospect of following due process, then it is a mob. It seeks mob justice. Is that what we're about in this country? Many people would say no, yet many of those people would still insist on killing first and letting god sort them out. This country is full of hypocrites who have no idea how to approach information or situations with enlightenment. You can't puff your chest out and brag about our democratic way of life and then say certain people are exempted from fair treatment. That's pure idiocy.

Report: Military used harsh methods on 9/11 terror suspect

What bothers me is that these techniques are being used on an ALLEGED terrorist. If he were proven to be a criminal and a terrorist, that's one thing, but if the government can simply claim that they believe some person (including you or me) is a terrorist, or supports a terrorist organization, and that gives them the ability legally to detain indefinitely, and to interrogate using these and similar methods, I'd have to question whether we are actually any longer the "Land of the Free".

Report: Military used harsh methods on 9/11 terror suspect

The courts need to read these comments! They are the ones who are providing so-called, "justice" to the killers and their accomplices. Our justice should be reserved for OUR citizens who follow OUR laws - not for the killers of our citizens, or those planning to kill us! TAKE OUT THE LOOPHOLES and LET US DO WHAT IT TAKES TO GAIN INTELLIGENCE! ...AND DON'T TELL US EVERYTHING!!!

Report: Military used harsh methods on 9/11 terror suspect

Tell this terroist supporting Journalist. Not an act of war, or an act that takes place during a war.

It is a crime, of mass murder. The "war" on terrorism can only be won through effective, preventive use of law enforcement, and covert military action when necessary. [Aztec Silence]

Keep in mind this man is still a suspect. Wile the evidence MAY be VERY vast and he MAY be very dangerous, he has not EVER been found guilty in ANY court of ANY charge relating to attacking the United States. We do not have trials in courts to protect the guilty, but to prevent INJUSTICE to the innocent. As well as to provide a means of payment to the depth of wrong and harm wrought upon our society by the person guilty.

Do not be ignorant or arrogant, the U.S. Government was able to prevent over 200+ acts of terrorism inside the United States prior to 9/11. Without EVER harming a single SUSPECT to get them to confess. Look up "MIPT.org" and "GTD1 and GTD2"

Praise the courageous and honorable actions of the FBI agents who did not take part in these acts. You didn't mention the numerous attacks that have been foiled due to successful interrogation. Or how detainees receive copies of the koran, are allowed to practice their religion, not to mention they are fed well, and they don't have their heads chopped off. I am so sick of this country consistantly being attacked from within by our own press. We certainly aren't perfect and we make mistakes. We do much more right than wrong and the mainstream media does their absolute best not to print a word of our success. With all our faults we are still the most altruistic country ever, by a long shot! All this sophmoric self-loathing is causing the greatest threat our Country has ever faced, because so many people actually believe it. I was surpised and overjoyed when I read the other comments and found only one, at the time, had agreed with the reporter that this was a negative instance.

Report: Military used harsh methods on 9/11 terror suspect

If this message gets approved, I will be surprised.

People have no idea what 9/11 was all about and why we don't question the real story behind it. Well in the past several years we have conveniently forgotten that the founding fathers wrote the constitution in reference to the social contract created by John Locke. The founding fathers knew its value but our interpretation over the years has watered it down for the purpose of twisting to our own needs setting precedents that are hard to break. But, the social contract is plain enough. When one refuses to uphold the contract by intentionally breaking the laws of a society or corupting those laws in a way that creates havoc, hurt or death, then they have broken the contract and are no longer able to be protected by the contract. They, by their very own actions have made the contract null and void for themselves. They have no rights. Therefore there should be no crying foul and anyone crying foul for them have no grounds for doing so. That was Jefferson's intent when he used the words of John Locke.

Report: Military used harsh methods on 9/11 terror suspect

I have no empathy for this man. Sounds like a walk in the park compared to what all the innocent people suffered on September 11th and the pain their families still carry. I say step it up and do whatever it takes to protect our country.

Report: Military used harsh methods on 9/11 terror suspect

well from the comments i've read if these people think that's fun send them to gtmo for a sample, and deny them any semblence of fair counsel or a hearing in a court of law,but most of you can take heart, with the patriot act and most crimes being considered acts of terrorism, you'll be able to sample torture soon enough,if you want it faster just refuse to show your id in the subway, they'll tase you

Report: Military used harsh methods on 9/11 terror suspect

this is harsh...this is considered rough treatment...congradulations to him he has just passed basics for us special forces training and he had the advantage of representation, something our captured troops do not get from the enemy. this conflict has no simple solution, now that politics and our govt. has so eagerly expanded our initial and worthy objective.

Report: Military used harsh methods on 9/11 terror suspect

Our POW's would love to have been treated so kindly. Wish they were. Anything is okay to get information to help us out for a change.

Report: Military used harsh methods on 9/11 terror suspect

Most of the comments posted are anti-american in that we are supposed to be a country of laws not guns. Picture being a soldier who is on a convoy to help out the local population only to be engulfed in the heat and flame of hot liquid metal blasting through the cabin of your vehicle. The soldier gasps for breath but only inhales searing heat which essentially burns their throat and lungs causing them to suffocate as their skin literally melts from the bone while they are being burned alive. All the while a family member (because we soldiers are all family out there) stands by screaming and crying as they defend the remainder of their brothers and sisters in arms amidst explosions, rockets and gunfire. Then the blackened, charred body is pulled from the wreckage, unidentifiable, save for dog tags (if they are not melted as well) which are permenantly embedded in the leftover flesh of this selfless warrior. Then last but not least....picture this as your daughter, your wife, your husband, your father or son etc. even if they are not soldiers. Please close your eyes and see them then multiply this situation but the hundreds or even thousands. We fight as soldiers are supposed to. Support us or simply be quiet as we do not need nor wish for your negativity as we face death daily for our country. We are people too. Support the Soldier.

Report: Military used harsh methods on 9/11 terror suspect

Why interogate him, they don't give their victims a chanceto speak. Off with his head.

Report: Military used harsh methods on 9/11 terror suspect

It sounds like we are becoming what we are fighting judging from the positive responses. Not one person was in imminent danger when this person was interrogated. We are on a slippery slope now. Today these techniques and doing it to one person seems fine to most people. What is it going to be in the near future? The wheel? The Iron Maiden? Burning at the Stake? We do it to one, let's do it to a 100, a 1000 or all of them! Maybe a few of them die in the process. Or best yet, maybe we should just cut to the chase and consider all of 'them', 'terrorists' and set up concentration camps to commit genocide. Them or us right? As long as we do it, well, it is just right? This would differentiate us from the terrorists, how again? How are we morally so superior that we can use these techniques? Do we really want to be in the same vein as other countries and people that work this way, a la Stalin Russia, Nazi Germany, Pol Pot, and the Inquisition just to name a few. It doesn't take that much to be accused for something you didn't do just look at all the cases of 'informants' and 'no knock' search warrants. In other words it could be you next. Someone calls an anonymous 800 number and says you are a conspirator, your skin is a little brown you might be Arab. Bang, no rights at all! Or even if you are in the military, you don't like your platoon leader so instead of the Vietnam 'fragging' days you simply pass on anonymous information your LT is conspiring with the enemy. Don't be naive and think it won't happen, the President has already written of habeus corpus.

Report: Military used harsh methods on 9/11 terror suspect

Let me see if I can understand some of the logic. The U.S. goes to war against Muslim extremist who are a threat against world decency. We destroy a nation who had nothing to go with 9/11, but that is OK because their leader was a demon who acted contrary to our values. We let the real mastermind of 9/11 get away, or so it seems. We torture anyone who we think might or should have information to aid our war on terrorism. We justify this torture by formulating our own definition of "torture". We seem to think any measure is justified by us because we are the good at war with the evil. Have we now redefined what is good and what is evil? If you actually think shaking a finger at someone with a gun or nuclear weapon is going to stop them, you are crazy.

Report: Military used harsh methods on 9/11 terror suspect

Also, consider this: You are someone who supports torture for a suspect in a crime. Then, they boobytrapped the bodies after they played soccer with one of the soldier's heads.

So go ahead, liberals--cry and hang your head in shame because a guard threatened to spread rumors about this terrorist's sexual orientation. These and the more "harsh" techniques the U.S. uses (siccing guard dogs on prisoners, waterboarding, etc...) in its "War on Terror" are in direct violation of the Geneva Convention (read all the Protocols). You probably think that its ok for the preservation of our country, but keep in mind our servicemen around the world these tactics endanger. If we ever get into a "tussle" with China, Russia, or whoever, I do not want my sons, if wounded/ captured, to be mistreated because the other side believes our country will mistreat their captured soldiers. You can't have it both ways. And if you don't want to call these people enemy combantants, then they would fall under International Human Rights. We are supposed to be the Cradle of Democracy and Human Rights and an example for all other nations to follow. What's next, death squads patrolling our streets at night? Maybe Americans need to take a lesson from Nazi Germany- they voluntarily gave away their rights for the sake of national security and look what happened with Hitler. "No", you say, "this is America, we are not like that." You already approve torture, illegal wiretaps, and invasion of your privacy. What's next? You all worry about our security from the terrorists, but many of you don't have a problem with the +12 million illegal aliens crossing our border in the south at will. We are a strange people!

Report: Military used harsh methods on 9/11 terror suspect

The detainees at Gitmo do not undergo torture. Terrorists know this well and enjoy the bleeding heart logic, but do not respect it.
The whiners care more about ideology than reality.
Terrorists intend to kill and maim as many innocents as possible. The crime of terrorism and murder weighs on the backs of those who cause it or are involved in it.
