Well that didn't take long.

Just hours after releasing Sen. Joseph Biden's federal tax returns for the last 10 years, the Obama campaign began pressing Gov. Sarah Palin to follow suit. In an email to reporters titled "Nonpartisan Alaska Elected Official Calls on Gov. Palin to Release Tax Returns," the Obama campaign tried to put Gov. Palin on the defensive.

The email quoted Mat-Su Borough (Alaska) Assembly member Michelle Church as saying: “The important question today I guess would be, because Senator Biden released his tax returns, would be for Governor Palin to release her tax returns -- federal tax returns -- to show whether or not she actually paid federal income tax on those reimbursements for when she was living in her Wasilla home.”

Palin has not yet released her federal tax returns. Reporters have asked her to disclose her returns in part to determine whether she paid taxes on the $16,951 in per diem payments she received for working out of her home in Wasilla.

Biden's Returns:
As for Biden, his returns are, well, humdrum. Biden has boasted on the campaign trail about being one of the poorest U.S. Senators, and his returns show modest wages--compared to some of the well-heeled titans on the Hill.

Biden and his wife, Jill, reported gross income of $215,432 in 1998 and their income stays roughly in the same ballpark for the next decade. His highest grossing year was 2005, when the Bidens reported total income of $321,379. That figure included $81,250 from the Sterling Lord literary agency.

In 2007, the most recent year available, the Bidens reported gross income of $319,853. By contrast, Sen. John Kerry had a maximum net worth of $313 million, according to a review by the Center for Responsive Politics.

Charity case?
One odd note: Biden's charitable giving is not exactly blockbuster. In 1998, for example, he reported just $195 in charitable gifts (on income of more than $215,000.) The next year he gave $120. The most he's given in one year was $995, on income that exceeded $319,000.

Biden's spokesman said the vice presidential contender released his returns to bring back accountability to government: “The last eight years have brought Americans' faith in their government to its lowest point in over thirty years. The only answer is to change the way we do business in Washington. That starts with something as simple as transparency. That's why Senator Biden is releasing his tax returns for the last 10 years.”

They have her.
I wouldn't worry too much about his charitable giving. We can never find our charitable receipts and so don't claim nearly what we give. Not saying that's his reason, just a possibility.
John Kerry's was just his income not a combined (husband + wife) income as is Bidens.

Relative to the rest of the other congress crew, the Bidens still have the lower end of the income benefit.

I really really really want to see S. Palin and T. Palin income tax.

The husband (T. Palin) is a high school graduate. The wife attended 6 colleges in 5 years to receive only (ONLY) Bachelors degree ... huum... in journalism.

I don't know why the MSM keeps saying she is 'common person' ----  who in the world attends 6 colleges in 5 years for one degree? That is not COMMON!!!

It would be great if they attach their IQ score with their tax return !!!
about the senator's not exactly blockbuster charitable giving:  ever consider that he might just decide not to claim the full measure of what he gave?  perhaps he gives in cash and therefore would not have the 'paper' needed to legitimately make the claim-- sounds like a judgemental conclusion to me....
If the Party keeps her income under wraps they're probably afraid of what the public might think...  just like if she gave more interviews she wouldn't be as impressive as with those canned speeches the Rebublicans have grown so fond of using to protect G.W.B. from interviews.
A lack of publicly accessible information seems to be part of the GOP's modus operandi lately, and it works as long as people believe the statements released without doing any research.
I can certainly identify with him - he's honest!  I give more than I have ever reported especially in volunteer hours.

I really don't see how his charitable contributions have to do with anything. We normal folk contribute but usually don't claim them on our tax forms. WE contribute because WE believe in the cause unlike the wealthiest 2% of americans who are constantly trying to find a way to deceive the government; anything to prevent contributing to the National Debt via TAXES!! TAXES are paying for this way----no I forgot because the wealthiest of americans are so selfish WE are borrowing money from China, Japan, etc. to pay for this horrendous misjudgment by our President.

Time to move on. Elect someone you can respect.
Obama & Biden 08 & 12
Wonder how many homes Kerry has?  Wonder why He was never asked?  Some things that make you go Hmmmm
The article stating "Palin has not yet released her federal tax returns," is very misleading. Why was the word "yet" included? Including that word ihat implies she has agreed to release her federal tax returns, but presently has not done so. However, I've never read anywhere that Palin has ever agreed to release her federal tax returns.

Poorly written article.
I'm sure they both donated to their church...ok by me, but the media and Dems need to stay on the Palin release. Since everyone should release fed. tax info, it won't be sexist to ask. Of course, the Rep. have such a need to protect "the little woman" as we say in the south, they will accuse!
It's my country, too in Texas
My maintenance guy made $50,000 more then Joe Biden.
Way to go Joe.
OBAMA /BIDEN
Biden's charitable contributions are pitiful. No getting around it.
To the MI guy: And that maintenance guy probably worked 80 hours a week and didn't take 12 weeks of vacation.
Obama/Biden want us to be "neighborly" and pay extra taxes for that waitress living on tips.
That waitress chose that path so why should someone that chose to spend a decade of their life in medical school have to pick up the tab for that waitress?
There are a lot of good causes that are not registered charities. Most of us can find need within our family, friends, and co-workers. What we claim on our tax return may be a small portion of what we gave.
What does releasing tax returns have to do with being a good leader and an effective public servant?  Sorry, but there is no correlation.  I mean when considering a political candidate, is it better for the candidate to have high, low or average income?  I do not care what Biden gave and I do not care about Palin's income tax return. Gosh folks, focus on something relevant.  You must all be products of our public education system....DUMB!
To Rich Latrobe--The point is the massive amounts of per diem she may or may not have stolen from Alaska. Read the article before you criticize people. Stealing public funds is pretty relevant.
They have her what?
Whos this "we normal folks". I would venture to guess that most of us report a good portion of what we contribute, and the percentages are a fair picture of our perspective of what we think the government should do for us. I would also guess that the majority of those who think the fed should pay for everything including your health insurance, are the smallest givers to the charities right next door to them. I don't believe we need a president who thinks hes doing his part by giving less than .5% of his income to charities. His idea of fairness is when he can decide who makes too much, and needs to give more to the less fortunate, and he expects the government to spread this cash out more efficiently than the charities hes not willing to lift a finger to help do? What a hypocrite!
You didn't mention John Mc's income. over 27% on average in the same time period Obamas at less then .5%?  And you guys write positive blogs for Obama from that information?
It has become customary for candidates to release their federal tax returns.  McCain, Biden and Obama have all done so.  Why hasn't Pallin?  Rumor is that it is because she failed to declare and pay taxes on the per diem money she was paid by State of Alaska to stay at her house in Wasilla.
wow - I bet the priests at his church aren't very happy!!!   What a CHEAP Skate!
I think her income is very pertinent here since she continues to compare herself to us "Middle Class Joe Sixpacks and Soccer Moms"  Look her up on Wikipedia, I wouldn't think that someone with a net worth of over 1.2 millon fits into that category.  Additionally, her staying in her home for almost one half of the year and then charging for it is disgraceful.  Do we really believe that she was working the entire time?  I wonder if this practice of hers would continue in the White House?  Hopefully, we won't have to find out.  Lastly, if you look at Mr. Biden's Wikipedia profile, he should admired how he handled his role as a single parent after his wife and one-year old died in a car accident.  Who cares about his "on paper" contributions.
Let's be real here. Sarah & Todd won't speak with their own people about Troopergate. They said they would and then changed their minds. I don't see them opening up anything about their returns. We might just learn something else about them-heaven forbid! Now we read that the IRS wants to talk to them about the per diem money she entitled herself to. Good!
Tammy complains about why she (assuming she actually went to medical school) has to "be good" to that waitress when she "chose" that path for herself... as if every American would have the chance to actually attend medical school. Some of us are born under conditions and circumstances out of our control that put us in either an advantage or a disadvantage in many ways; what Tammy is saying is that those who are poor chose to be poor, and those who are rich chose to be rich...this is a limited, ignorant view that has no place in the modern world. We all have a moral duty to help one another, it is in our best interest as individuals and as a society.
Tammy complains about why she should help others, but for sure she will want to have full Medicare coverage when she gets old, right? And she will demand that her government (through all of us) pay her tab for healthcare when she needs it, right? Well, guess what, if you are not willing to "help the waitress" you should make sure you have enough money to pay for all your expenses from now on, and if you cannot, you are on your own!
To the person who wondered why Kerry's wealth wasn't as much of an issue in '04, keep in mind the last thing the Bush campaign wanted to call attention to was personal finances.  It's more relevant this year because of the enormous contrast in wealth between the McCains and Obama or Biden.
To ALEX CRINO - It sounds like you need to read the article as well.  Nobody accused Palin of stealing anything, they accused her of not reporting her per diem as income to the IRS.  The more information that comes out, the more it seems to support her position that she shouldn't have to.
